No Surrender:
I'm not a big fan of
Kate, but I did always love her interaction with Angel and I am a fan of
videos to that pairing. I'm also a huge fan of the song and all things
considered I really enjoyed this video. The editing is smooth and I love
the overlays, which really add another dimension to the piece. I do have
a critique, though, and hopefully it'll come across as constructive and
helpful as I intend it. I'm a huge fan of, and a
vidder who likes to, mixing dialogue/audio from the series in with
the music being vidded to add to the impact/emotion
of the video. It really helps viewers who may not be familiar with the
pairing/character/storyline you've chosen to showcase to understand what's
going on beyond what the clips and song are illustrating, but I think one
has to very carefully place the dialogue to do these things. When
vidding a song with lyrical content (basically
anything that isn't totally instrumental) it's important to put the
sound-bites in areas where they don't interfere with the music - usually
the very beginning/end of the song/video or during an instrumental break
in the lyrics. Otherwise there's this kind of odd break in the song, like
we see at 1:03 and 2:34 in this video, where the song stops for the
dialogue to begin then the dialogue plays out and the song picks up again
like there never was an interruption. It's something that had me kind of
blinking, pulling back and rewinding the video wondering what had just
happened. I like the dialogue that was chosen, but the placement should
have been earlier in the video or maybe lay over the song lyrics with a
balance found between the two audio sources so that both could be heard
without the flow of the video being disrupted. Overall I did really enjoy
and think it's a very good piece.
I loved the relationship
between Angel and Kate. I didn’t really understand the story very well
through this video. One minute she’s happy, the next, she’s sad. And the
next she’s trying to kill herself.
“White Flag” was a
wonderful song to use for this video. It invoked sadness and hope. The
only thing that I didn’t really like was that the song stopped when the
dialogue came on. If you maintained the song throughout it would’ve made
it a whole lot better. It’s unique to the fact that Kate didn’t hate
Angel, she loved him, and that she was willing to die to get him back.

It was strange seeing Angel in another
version of this clip (he's in the Dido clip too) but it worked. i never
really approved of the whole kate thing but i will have to admit that
there was somrthing there, even if just deep freindship. A good clip. Well
done.
It's been a very long time since I've seen a Kate video, in general.
Usually, when vidders make a Kate video they focus on her hate of Angel,
of vampires and demons, etc. This video was a real nice surprise to watch.
It was very energetic (tempo-wise) and flashy. Which I really liked a lot.
You could definitely tell that you put a lot of time into it. Great job
